The Chena slough (pronouned slew) was the flood source. Today it is called the Chena River. That river was where the annual winter carnival was held with a large queen's throne made of ice, eskimos doing the blanket toss with a walrus hide, lots of sled dogs and races, and ice skating performances -- notable by our neighbor, Ms. Dickinson (can't think of her first name right now).
